In this series of Seminars, we discuss the power of self-directed play in the life of a child. We will explore the research, evidence and the benefits of different types of play in the life of a child. We will see how children benefit from self-directed play and learning, STEAM activities and Loose Parts play, Process oriented art, and Rough house play. Each month this fall, we will explore a different topic. This seminar series is great for parents or caregivers or young children, child care/preschool staff, and anyone with a young child in their life! Each seminar meets the OCFS criteria for 2 hours of training credits for child care providers and preschool teachers. A certificate will be given for 2 hours of training credits in OCFS training topic areas 1 and 3. For specifics on each topic in the series, go to http://progressiveearlylearning.com/seminar-series/
Children learn so much more and are much happier when they are allowed to experience art in an open-ended, process oriented way. In this workshop, we discuss why the process is so much more important than the product when it comes to children's art. We see examples of beautiful art made by children through an open-ended process. In this workshop, we will learn how to allow the child full ownership over their art work, allow them their process, and still usually have a beautiful 'fridge worthy' piece of art. Participants will make a variery of paintbrushes and art materials from common items you can find around your home or program, and create their own art. Paint and other materials will be provided.
